Halite Hold is a dwarven keep at the apex of Salt Ridge and home of the Rock-Salt Clan. Within the hold is the entrance to the dwarves’ salt mines. Salt is a valued commodity and its trade has made the dwarves both prosperous and influential in the area. Shortly afterward, the area was annexed by the Nerath Empire, reports of saline springs on the ridge piqued the interest of dwarven prospectors. After it was confirmed that salt mining was a viable operation, the clan moved wholesale.
Halite Hold has within its walls a well-maintained temple to Moradin. The hold also has a small prison and the clan maintains a contract with the governing council of Wayfare by which those found guilty of serious crimes can be sentenced to work in the salt mines under the authority of the dwarves. The dwarves trade and barter freely with their neighbors on Salt Ridge and with the elves of Hickorywood. Formal commerce in Wayfare is conducted by representatives of the clan.
To date, the Black Army has made no move towards Halite Hold, which would be the first obstacle along any path through the foothills. Whether the area holds no interest to the invaders or they fear to engage the dwarves in warfare is unknown.
